Heroes: Signar, Borgar, Malik, Machteld, Riegon.
Year 642 MR (3rd quarter)
During the night, while the drunken pirates sleep, the Heroes plot further. But even the walls have ears, and they're spied upon by an invisible magician, who overhears their true purpose. The Heroes decide to fast forward the rescue mission, and attack the pirates.
The situation rapidly escalates in an all-out fight, where many pirates lose their lives. The Heroes manage to come face-to-face with Karsten and his most trusted captains, holding young Ottilie prisoner.
But the opponents are too many and too fierce; even though the Heroes manage to kill the deadly Oliver the Hook, they must succumb to Karsten's and his captain's wicked swordplay. Malik manages to escape, but the others are made prisoners. In order to get Malik to surrender, the pirate leader threatens to kill one of the prisoners. Unfortunately Malik is already underwater swimming for his life, unable to hear any threats; unwilling to loose face with the remaining pirates, angered by the losses, and ready to show he makes no hollow threats, Karsten cuts Signar's throat, and throws his corpse into the sea.
Malik reaches a ledge on the side of the caverns, almost at the exit of the cove, and finally gets some rest. When Riegon and Borgar awake, they find themselves tied hands and feet in the water, with the tide fast approaching to drown them. While the pirates are not paying attention to them, they manage to escape their bonds, and swim to where Malik is in hiding.
In the meanwhile, Karsten interrogates Machteld, who has been trying to convince the pirate that her daughter is not Grevesmhul's heir anymore. Karsten, having invested many resources in his plan to become duke, but not sure if he should dismiss Machteld's convincing words, plans a trip back to Grevesmhul.
